In 2014, Kathi Alexander, a former healthcare sales executive, decided it was time to combine her experience in start-up ventures, with her love of creating fresh, handmade pastries. The result was Charlotte’s first artisanal donut concept: SUGAR. Handmade Gourmet Donuts!
She and her business partner, Cassmer Ward, started Charlotte’s first and only donut food truck which quickly gained popularity throughout the city.
Just one year later, SUGAR’s first retail location opened in Ballantyne and quickly built a loyal following for the shop’s beautiful, handcrafted donuts and pastries.
Our dough is made from scratch, then rolled and cut by hand. All of our glazes, toppings, jellies, jams and cream fillings are hand made.
Our donuts are made fresh daily, and we never use mixes, additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients. We only use premium ingredients in our donuts and buy locally from North Carolina farms whenever possible.
